Gore Creek Lodge was inspected today by the Vail Valley Partnership, Eagle County’s tourism bureau, for their Lodging Quality Assurance Program (LQA). We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded the program’s highest rating of Platinum! The program rates lodging in the Vail Valley using a rigorous weighted scoring system, where each room is scored according to around 15 factors.

On Friday April 27th we’ll be moving into the house for four to six weeks to oversee the fine details – punch list, A/V system, furniture, landscaping, etc. Next week is a full week of inspections and we are anticipating the conditional certificate of occupancy to be awarded on Thursday. That’s a few days later than we thought last week due to the back-ordering of some can lights which arrive early next week.

So, this is the final “construction” update. We’ll be updating the blog regularly, of course, with news and new photos as the interior design and landscaping progress. The hot tub gets delivered on Wednesday, so there’ll be photos of that next week too.

We now have a target date for the provisional certificate of occupancy, which is just 8 days away! The PCO will mean that we have the all-clear to move into the house, and that it has officially transitioned from a construction site to a home. That’s exactly what we aim to do. Meri, Ella, Jack, Finley and I will move into the house temporarily so that we can oversee all the fine details such as hanging the artwork. We can’t wait!

Today we witnessed the kitchen appliances being fitted, positioned the master bath (to get that perfect view of the aspen glade), positioned the in-ceiling speakers, finalized bathroom fixture locations, and countless other details.

The 7-person hot tub is going to be delivered by crane any day, lifted over the house from the street onto the back deck. Next week the upstairs carpets will be fitted, all the lights and plumbing fixtures will be finished and the house will get a full clean inside and out. Essentially, the house will be complete! There’ll still be a few items to be worked on, such as the new flagstone-capped retaining wall that we just commissioned. With the weather in Vail being so beautiful at the moment, we’re looking forward to being there in person to oversee the final phase of the project!

Today the hardwood floors have been completed, and Meridith and I love them! We think they go so well with the fireplace and wood trim. We hope you agree. All of the natural stone countertops have been completed and are ready for the installation of the plumbing fixtures next week.

The bench and cubbies in the mud room have all been installed. The mud room, right next to the front door, is a feature that Meridith and I felt was an important addition to the home. With it being on the Vail bus route, we would put on our ski boots in the house and walk over with our skis once the nextbus.com web site told us that the bus was a couple of minutes away. However, there would always be a pile of ski clothing and ski boots cluttering up the entry hall. Now, there is an organized space to hang our skiwear and store our boots, and a large bench to change in and out of it all.

Another feature that we are proud of this week is the pebbles on the floor of Master Bathroom #1. We think they look great against the travertine wall and floor tiles. We can’t wait for the shower glass to be installed. This is a shower with a view. We had a long picture window installed in the shower (just high enough to preserve modesty!), which overlooks the private aspen glade at the back of the house. After a long day on the slopes, this is just what I need (followed by a soak in the hot tub, of course!).

However, we’ve been working hard to ensure that any time spent at the house is just as special. While Meridith has been in charge of interior design, the home’s high-tech audio/video system has been my domain. Over the last couple of days I’ve been finalizing the design and have started to purchase and test the equipment. While some rentals may have a cheap high-fi, Gore Creek Lodge has the latest in integrated Internet-enabled multi-room high definition video and audio. For the AV geeks out there, I’ve attached a system diagram.

High tech it may be, but I’ve designed it to be both simple and flexible to use. I’ve also hidden most of the technology out of sight to preserve the look of the home. Here’s just some of the key features:
